RECIPES OF ROMANCE: A ROMANCE NOVEL COOKBOOK

From Judith McNaught:
“Here is an incredibly easy (and surprisingly delicious) recipe which can be made from even the meager items I stock in my kitchen. Men devour these and women (including gourmet cooks) spend a lot of time trying to guess how they were created.
Four years ago, I declared independence from all kitchen duty–especially cooking. As a result, my refrigerator is no longer filled with food and my cabinets are virtually bare. I love it this way; I live on prepared frozen entrees and frozen vegetables.
I’ve forgotten how to use the dials on my oven. My microwave and coffee pot are the only appliances I use. As I said, I love it! My friends, however, do not share my point of view. When they drop by in the evening, and they frequently do, they seem to enjoy hors d’oeuvres with their drinks. Since the frozen food sections of even the most enormous supermarkets are still woefully lacking in frozen hors d’oeuvres, I’m often forced to violate my principles and use my stove for the sake of friendship.”
Hors D’oeuvres
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 lb. hot dogs, cut into 1″ pieces
- 1/2 c. bourbon
- barbecue sauce (purchased)
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, bourbon, and hot dog bits. Cook until sauce is rather thick (about 20 minutes). Add a dash of barbecue sauce and serve in a chafing dish or bowl–with toothpicks and plenty of napkins.
